THE PROJECT AND MAIN PARTNERS The Armenian Eye Care Project (hereinafter referred to as the AEP) is a charitable organization founded in the United States in 1992 by American-Armenian ophthalmologist Roger Ohanessian. The organization’s mission is to prevent acquired blindness in Armenia. To this end, numerous highly qualified ophthalmologists from the United States have visited Armenia with the mission of sharing their experience and treating patients. Thanks to our compatriots in the Diaspora and other donations, many expensive ophthalmological medical supplies, equipment, and medications have been brought to Armenia.
2003 The Armenian Eye Commission (AEC) has launched its “Light for Armenian Eyes” program, the main areas of which are: outpatient care, data collection and research, medical education and training, public education and awareness, and capacity building. Equipped with modern equipment, the Mobile Eye Hospital (MOH) travels throughout the regions of Armenia, providing high-quality eye care services to the population.
In 2010, the AEC has been implementing the “National Eye Screening and Treatment Program for Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP),” which was launched in 2012. The AECP was continued by the USAID and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia within the framework of the three-year program "Center of Excellence for the Prevention of Childhood Blindness". The AECP will establish a Center of Excellence for the Prevention of Childhood Blindness, the vision of which is to make specialized ophthalmological services accessible to children in Armenia and the region, as well as to prevent childhood blindness due to retinopathy.
The activities of the AECP have greatly contributed to the implementation of the "Strategic Program for the Prevention of Blindness" in Armenia.
The AECP carries out its mission in the Republic of Armenia in close cooperation with its partners in the country and beyond.
The main partners of the AECP are:
The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia,
The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of the Republic of Armenia,
